MAKE IT THIS WEEKEND: EDITION #3

Edition #3 of our Make It This Weekend series! The days are getting warmer, the afternoons are getting longer, but there’s still enough chill in the air for something a little richer once the sun goes down. So, this one has a bit of both. Think zesty Gin Margaritas and fruity Bloody Bramble Spritzes, followed by Coffee Negronis and Espresso Martinis after dark. Four easy gin cocktail recipes, four very good reasons to get some mates together and put those cocktail-making skills to work. Because any weekend activity that ends with a delicious gin drink is a win in our books.

Ahhh, Spring! Jasmine on the air and a general feeling of happiness sets in as our collective seasonal depression lifts. Days getting longer, the afternoons getting warmer and suddenly making a cocktail feels like a very good idea. Not that we ever stopped, obviously.

Welcome to Edition #3 of Make It This Weekend, our ongoing collection of easy gin cocktail recipes worth adding to your repertoire. This time, we're embracing that glorious in-between bit of the year. The sun's hanging around a little more, but there's still enough chill in the evening to warrant something rich, dark and delicious once it goes down.

So, what should you make this weekend? We've picked four gin cocktails that can take you from a sunny afternoon well into the night. Start bright with an El Cuatro Gin Margarita, move onto a Bloody Bramble Spritz, then settle in with a Coffee Negroni or Espresso Martini made with our new Melbourne Laneway Gin.

Even better, we've made a cocktail bundle for every single one. Less time hunting down bottles, more time actually making the drinks. Very thoughtful of us, really.

  • Gin Margarita Recipe

Sun's out? Margarita. Our Mexican-inspired El Cuatro Gin was pretty much born for this job. Habanero brings a gentle kick of heat while citrus keeps things bright, fresh and zippy. Shake it up with orange curaçao, fresh lime and agave and you've got our ginny spin on the classic Margarita. Or Margatini, as some like to call it.

    INGREDIENTS
    • 45mL El Cuatro Gin
    • 30mL lime juice
    • 15mL Marionette Curaçao Liqueur
    • 15mL Crawley's Agave Syrup
    • Salt
    • Lime
    METHOD
    • Combine ingredients in a tin.
    • Shake with ice.
    • Strain into a coupe glass.
    • Garnish with a lime wedge

  • Bloody Bramble Spritz

Our cult Bloody Shiraz Gin brings juicy Shiraz fruit and spice, while berry liqueur, vermouth and plenty of soda turn it into something bright, bubbly and very easy to drink.

It's a little richer than your usual gin spritz, but still refreshing enough for those increasingly warm afternoons.

    INGREDIENTS
    • 45mL Bloody Shiraz Gin n
    • 10mL Marionette Berry Liqueur
    • 10mL Oscars Bianco Vermouth
    • 10mL lemon juice

  • Coffee Negroni

The sun's disappeared and there's still a little bite in the air. Sounds like Negroni weather to us. Our Coffee Negroni swaps the classic gin for Melbourne Laneway Gin. The rich, roasted flavours work beautifully with the bittersweet notes of a Negroni, creating a deep, complex cocktail with plenty of coffee character.

    INGREDIENTS
    • 30mL Melbourne Laneway Gin
    • 20mL sweet vermouth like Oscars 697
    • 20mL Marionette Bitter Orange Liqueur
    • 10mL Broken Bean Coffee Liqueur
    METHOD
    • Combine ingredients in a tin and stir
    • Strain into a rocks glass
    • Top with ice and garnish with a juicy slice of orange.
    • Enjoy!

Some nights call for one last drink. Preferably one involving coffee.
Our Melbourne Laneway Gin Espresso Martini takes everyone's favourite after-dark cocktail and gives it a decidedly ginny twist. Rich coffee, smooth sweetness and the deep roasted character of Melbourne Laneway Gin come together in one silky, frothy glass.
