Our sustainability journey
Very early on in the Four Pillars journey we became aware of just how energy-intensive making gin is. So we’ve always done our best to recycle, re-use and reduce our impact on the environment.
2015
It started with turning the
spent oranges left over from our Rare Dry Gin distillations into our (now) much-loved Orange Marmalade. Which soon led to the start of our Made From Gin range.
2018
We began cladding our distillery roof in solar panels to address our growing energy needs. We’re now completely covered across the entire building!
2022
We made all of our consumer packaging 100% recyclable.
2022
We became the first gin distillery in Australia to achieve carbon neutral status for our gins bottled on-site at the distillery and organisation certification for the entire Four Pillars business.
2022
Our newly expanded distillery opened its doors. Made with materials like recycled and upcycled concrete bricks and surrounded by a copper ‘veil’ made from 1650m of raw copper tubing which works as a natural heat exchange to reduce energy consumption.
2022
We were awarded the inaugural Global Green Spirit Initiative trophy by the International Wine & Spirit Competition (our industry’s version of the Oscars). An award designed to recognise sustainability initiatives in distilling worldwide.
2022
We trialled our first-ever gin refill service at our Healesville Distillery. And now it’s a forever thing!
2023
We were named Sustainable Distillery of the Year at the World Gin Icon Awards in London.
2023
Our distillery is now powered
by 100% renewable energy!
AND WE AREN'T DONE YET!
In 2023, we launched the Four Pillars Sustainability Plan, focusing on key areas to reduce our carbon emissions. Our goal is to acheive a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030. So watch this space as we continue to tread evermore lightly on this place we call home, right here in the Yarra Valley, Victoria.
