Old Fashioned Gin Liqueur

A collaboration with our good friends at Marionette, the story behind this liqueur goes all the way back to the launch of Four Pillars in 2013 at Melbourne’s Gin Palace.

Made with a mix of Rare Dry Gin aged in Curaçao barrels, and Marionette’s Orange Curaçao (also aged in barrel), this Old Fashioned Gin Liqueur is a ginny riff on the classic whisky cocktail. Drink neat or over ice with a big slice of orange.

The Melbourne hospitality scene is a tight knit one, and our ties to the team at beloved liqueur brand, Marionette go way back to the launch of Four Pillars at Melbourne’s Gin Palace in December 2013 where three of the four Marionette co-founders - Nick, Hugh & Shaun were working behind the bar.

We stayed in touch over the years as Marionette launched, and in 2023 we even sweettalked co-founder, Nick Tesar into joining the Four Pillars team as Creative Director of Gin Drinks!

In amongst this fun, a couple of Marionette's Orange Curaçao barrels made their way to our Healesville Distillery to be used for ageing Rare Dry Gin. A few years later, we sent these same barrels - full of gin - back home to Marionette for the liqueur geniuses to taste and experiment with.

A beautifully designed bottled cocktail, old fashioned gin liqueur, surrounded by string bags of oranges and two bar blades.

Back at Marionette HQ, the aged gin was removed and stored safely, while the barrels were filled with a concentrated Curaçao made by hand peeling, drying, soaking and distilling Seville and blood oranges from Mildura.

Two years later, this aged Curaçao was blended with the aged gin, along with a hint of fresh Orange Curaçao, creating the concoction we now know to be Four Pillars x Marionette Old Fashioned Gin Liqueur.

The final product smells like a cardamom bun with a bold juniper spice, cinnamon and star anise warmth on the palate. The finish is dryer than expected with notes of fruit mince, orange peel and a piney lift.

Pour it straight into a glass over ice for a fresh ginny take on an Old Fashioned.
