TIM SUMMERTON
The local artist behind the beautiful “Flame Trees” piece on our 2019 Australian Christmas Gin label is Tim Summerton.
Tim Summerton is a dedicated painter of the Australian landscape who has forged a unique style that draws on a range of abstract devices while remaining faithful to a sense of place.
Tim lives and works in the Australian bush. After growing up around the corner from us in the Yarra Valley, he moved to Sydney and then the NSW Southern Highlands. On his property he has planted hundreds of indigenous trees and in his artwork for our 2019 Australian Christmas Gin he depicts his Illawarra Flame Trees in full blazing bloom letting everyone know that Christmas is coming and of course reminding us all that soon we will be sitting at a table with old friends.
A typical picture might contain smudges, drips or overlapping lines that knit together in a mesh. Summerton’s colour is non-naturalistic but manages to capture the essence of the landscape more effectively than the work of many artists who proceed with near-photographic precision.
Summerton completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Newcastle, Sydney in 1998 and an Honours degree in Fine Art from the University of New South Wales in 2000.
Represented by the Olsen Gallery in Sydney, Summerton’s work is included in the Macquarie Bank’s corporate collection and in numerous private collections in Australia, the US, Britain and Asia.
